Amazon is rolling out major updates to the Fire Stick that will restrict most sideloaded or third-party applications. While both of our apps remain protected for now, Amazon’s long-term plan appears to move away from Android entirely and toward their new Vega operating system.
This change means that Fire Sticks will soon rely exclusively on Amazon’s own Appstore, limiting access to the wider range of apps available outside their platform. Once the Vega OS is fully implemented, many streaming applications that rely on sideloading will no longer function — effectively making Fire Sticks obsolete for open streaming use.
⚠️ What You Should Do
To maintain full access and flexibility, it’s highly recommended to switch to a different streaming device. Some great alternatives include:
- Google streaming devices (Chromecast / Google TV)
- Onn Box (available at Walmart)
These devices not only run on Android but are also more powerful and provide a smoother viewing experience.
We’ll continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates as Amazon rolls out these changes.
Stay tuned — and consider upgrading your device soon to keep your streaming experience uninterrupted.
